Lately I’ve felt the burn of too-much-to-do-itis. Each time one thing is completed, there are five more things that need to be taken care of. As the new school year begins, our schedules go into over-drive. I drive my kids to school, run whatever errands need to be taken care of, work on my organization, pick up the kids, help with homework, sign papers, and make sure we have laundry and lunch for the next day! Apparently, they all want to eat, too, and don’t forget after school sports and volunteering commitments! And, finding some time to love on my husband is also very important to me! It often seems in the blink of an eye, it’s midnight, and my to do list is longer than it was that morning. So, what to do?!
Take a Deep Breath and Get Organized!
I’m a list taker. My calendar is color coded by person, organization and job, and I plan as much as I can. With three children’s crazy schedules, coupled with my schedule, my own business, and my husband’s plans, if we don’t plan, we don’t go.
Even with the best of intentions, I can start to feel like I’m pulled in a million directions. Truth be told, there are times I want to cry, or yell, or just throw it all in the trash! So, I have to literally start with a brain dump.
I have to write down everything that is in my head! This includes everything that needs to be done, errands that need to be taken care of, ideas I have, and schedules that aren’t in my calendar, yet. Any item that is causing me to feel weighed down has to be written on the paper. Once that’s done, I immediately feel better. I still have all of those things to deal with, but they are written down, and I can more easily prioritize.
Let’s all brain dump! Here’s a free printable, so you may get everything out of your head, on to paper, and you can begin the process of determining what is really worth your energy and time! If you’d prefer a more print friendly version, we’ve got you covered! Here’s a free black and white printable.
